It made its way to the US and became popular under the name Casino Brag, but the name was later changed to 3 Card Poker. It was developed by an English professional poker player and champion named Derek Webb. It is believed that Webb was in Las Vegas, Nevada, playing poker, but he found the game too boring and slow. At the beginning, the player places a bet and / or a pair plus bet, betting that he has a hand of at least one pair or better.
Each player and the dealer are then dealt three cards face down. You only play with the dealer, not with the other players at the table.
The player then looks at his hand and decides whether to bet on the game or not (equal to the amount he placed as a bet) to compare his hand with the dealer's hand or not. The optimal strategy says that the player should “play” all hands that are larger than the queen, sixes and fours, and fold all hands worse.
If the player commits a foul, the hand ends and the dealer takes the player's ante bet and the par-plus bet. When the player bets, the cards are turned over to see if the player has a better hand than the dealer.
If the dealer has a Jack-Jay or worse on hand, the player's game bet is returned. If the dealer has a queen High or better in his hand, the bet on the game and the bet are paid out in a ratio of 1 to 1 if the player has a better hand than the dealer.
If the dealer's hand is higher, both the bet and the game bets are taken away. The pair plus bet is determined completely regardless of what the dealer has.
Three Card Poker is played as a heads-up game between the player's hand and the dealer's hand. After all ante bets are placed, each player and the dealer are dealt three cards. Players have the choice of either discarding their cards or continuing the game by placing a “game” bet that matches their stake. The hands are then dealt and the bets are accepted.
In order for the dealer's hand to play, it must be a queen or higher. If the dealer does not play, no “play” bets will be accepted and ante bets will be paid out 1 to 1. When the dealer plays, the hands of the dealer and the player are compared. If the player's hand loses, both ante and play bets are lost. If the player's hand wins, both bets - bet and game - are paid out 1 to 1. If the hands are tied, none of the bets are valid.
Additional optional bets are offered. A Pair Plus bet is a bet on whether a player has a pair or better in his hand. A Pair Plus bet wins if the player has at least two deuces. The payout is independent of the dealer's hand, as the Pair Plus bet does not compete with the dealer's hand. Some casinos also offer an ante bonus, which pays out on the ante bet on a road or better. Since the Pair Plus bet is played independently, it is either collected if the player does not make a pair or better, or the player receives the corresponding winnings. If the dealer qualifies and the player beats the dealer, the play bet is paid out 1 to 1 and the ante bet is paid out 1 to 1.
